Privacy policy

What we collect

We collect a small amount of data, all of which is reasonably standard for a content website:

• Analytics data via Google Analytics 4: pages viewed, time on page, country/region (city level, not address level), device type, referrer. We do not collect names, email addresses, or other identifying information through analytics.
• Email addresses if you voluntarily subscribe to our newsletter or download a lead-magnet PDF. Stored in our email service provider (Kit). Used only to send you the requested content and occasional newsletters. Unsubscribe at any time using the link in every email.
• GYG Partner Analytics and affiliate widget data: GetYourGuide widgets use GYG Partner Analytics to measure widget views and affiliate referrals. When you click an affiliate link on this site, GetYourGuide or another destination network may set cookies and process usage data according to its own privacy policy.
• Affiliate click-through data: when you click an affiliate link on this site, we log the click (anonymously) for our own attribution. The destination network (Booking.com, GetYourGuide, etc.) sets its own cookie according to its own privacy policy.
• Server logs at our hosting provider (Netlify): technical request information such as IP address, user agent and requested URL may be processed for delivery, security and abuse prevention according to Netlify’s policies.

Cookies

We use a small number of cookies:

• Strictly necessary cookies for the site to function (e.g. remembering whether you’ve dismissed the cookie banner).
• Analytics cookies via Google Analytics 4. These can be disabled by setting your browser to "Do Not Track" or by rejecting the cookie banner.
• Partner analytics and affiliate cookies may be used by GetYourGuide through GYG Partner Analytics and affiliate widgets, and by other affiliate networks when you click through. These are governed by the destination network’s own privacy policy.

We do not run third-party display ads. Clearly labelled affiliate links and booking widgets may use referral or partner analytics cookies as described above.

Your rights

Under Australian privacy law (the Privacy Act 1988), and where applicable under the EU GDPR or UK GDPR, you have the right to:

• Access the personal information we hold about you (almost always: just an email address if you’re a subscriber).
• Have it corrected if it’s wrong.
• Have it deleted on request.
• Withdraw consent (typically by unsubscribing from our newsletter).
• Lodge a complaint with the relevant authority (Office of the Australian Information Commissioner, the ICO in the UK, or your member-state DPA in the EU).

Children

This site is not directed at children under 13 (US) or 16 (EU/UK). We do not knowingly collect data from children.

Changes

If we substantively change this policy, we will say so on this page with the date. The "last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision.
