Welcome to Perth

Fun is a way of life in Perth. With its sunny blue skies, magnificent waterways and relaxed outdoor lifestyle, the city is like one big holiday resort. Western Australia's capital flanks the broad reaches of the Swan River, edged to the west by the sparkling blue waters of the Indian Ocean and in the east, by the gentle slopes of the Darling Range.

Basking in the sunny Mediterranean climate, it's a laid-back, alfresco city which invites the visitor out onto the streets, into the cafes and down to the waters edge. Much of the action centres on the Swan River, a wide blue ribbon of water which flows through the city centre.

For sweeping bird's eye views of Perth's riverside setting, Kings Park on high ground at the west end of the city is the best vantage point. It's a 400 hectare oasis of landscaped gardens and natural bushland showcasing Western Australia's unique wildflowers. Alternatively, you can always head for Northbridge, Perth's multicultural cafe and restaurant district, a short stroll from the city centre. You can check out the thriving arts scene centred on the Art Gallery of Western Australia and Perth Cultural Centre. Then dance the night away, if the mood takes you, at Northbridge's raging nightclubs.

To the west is Perth's Sunset Coast, with world class beaches where you can watch the sun set over the Indian Ocean. Scarborough and Cottesloe are the hot spots of beach culture, but beaches all the way up the coast cater for everyone from family groups to hard-core surfers.
