Golden Rivers

Golden RiversA four hours drive from Melbourne will take you to the Golden Rivers area on the River Murray where you will find the picturesque towns of Barham/Koondrook, Cohuna, Kerang, Wakool, Moulamein, Murrabit, Quambatook, Tooleybuc, the Lakes of Kerang and the Gannawarra Wetlands.

The rivers, lakes and the wetlands provide fishermen with abundant opportunities for excellent fishing while camping in the red gum forests. Centred in the Gannawarra Wetlands is Gunbower Island which provides a habitat for abundant wildlife. You can experience the magic of gliding through the wetlands on the Wetlander from mid August to mid May. For the more active water lover, boating, waterskiing and windsurfing provide hours of leisure fun. Lawn tennis and bowls are also major sporting features of the Golden Rivers region.

Try your luck on the pokies at the Barham and Districts Services Memorial Club, the Wakool Services Club, The Moulamein Bowling Club or the Tooleybuc Sporting Club.

Kerang is the centre of a rich and diverse agricultural district based on cattle, sheep and grain. Part of the area's culture is the Murrabit Market held on the first Saturday of each month with over 300 stalls.

Golden Rivers region boasts excellent sporting facilities and interesting attractions such as Mathers Waterwheel Museum, The Burls or Michael Robinson's Red Gum Refinery and don't forget to include a visit to Karweena Alpacas.
