Queenscliff

QueenscliffVariety is the spice of life along the Bellarine Peninsula where the charm of yesteryear blends with the modern. At historic Queenscliff - known as the jewel in the Peninsula's crown - the township is adorned with beautifully preserved examples of the Victorian era. Take a stroll and you'll discover graceful old hotels, guest houses, churches and many other fine examples of 19th century architecture.

The huge Queenscliff Fort - built in the 1880s - is one of the township's most commanding buildings and you can take a guided tour. Vintage steam train travel is preserved at Queenscliff and on weekends and holidays, you can hop aboard a train and experience the magic of a bygone age. Car and passenger ferries link Queenscliff with Sorrento on the other side of Port Phillip Bay.

At Point Lonsdale, famous for The Rip - the treacherous entrance to Port Phillip Bay - you can watch huge ships battle the ocean swells. The Bellarine Peninsula's many safe bay beaches are a favourite with families. Surf beaches, with kilometres of golden sands, offer a little more excitement, and Ocean Grove is the most popular. At nearby Barwon Heads, where the Barwon River meets the ocean, the atmosphere is reminiscent of a quiet fishing village.

Other fascinating places along the rich Bellarine Peninsula, each with its own character, include the bayside Portarlington, Indented Head and St Leonards, and the historic township of Drysdale.
