Torquay & Bells Beach
Surfing and Torquay are synonymous and the town has rightly earned the crown of Australia's surf capital. It is one of the most popular beach resorts on the Surfcoast and nearby Bells Beach has international recognition as home of the longest running event on the men's professional surfing circuit, the Rip Curl Pro, held every Easter. The best of the world's women and men surfers are drawn to Bells each year for a long weekend of action in front of a crowd of thousands.
You can visit the famous beach, walk the sands and watch the big waves that Bells is renowned for roll in. Torquay is a great place to buy surf-related products. The major manufacturers are located there, making surfboards, wetsuits, clothing, sunglasses and accessories. Surfworld Museum and Hall of Fame show how surfing has ridden into the Australian ethos and highlights the famous practitioners of the sport.
Torquay also has a protected front beach which is ideal for families. The grassed foreshore reserve has picnic facilities and shade trees. Sailing, diving, fishing and windsurfing are just some of the other favourite pursuits around Torquay. Jan Juc is another of the major surf beaches in the Torquay area, popular with board riders and swimmers.
