The Grampians region offers much more than natural wonders and gourmet food and wines. The region and its towns provide a huge range of varied activities as well as shopping, art and craft centres and festivals such as the Great Western Champagne Races and the famous Stawell Easter Gift.
Halls Gap offers the visitor several souvenir and craft shops as well as galleries featuring work by local artists. The town is also home to the unusual award winning Brambuck Aboriginal Cultural Centre and the National Park Centre where an audio visual historical and geological presentation is on view nearly every day. The nearby town of Pomonal offers the visitor horsedrawn vehicles, camel tours and the old style charm of the local village market. St Arnaud, the northern gateway to to the Grampians, boasts a heritage streetscape and botanical gardens. A city born of the goldrush in the 1850s, Stawell reflects the elegance and charm of a large country town whilst boasting the convenience and prosperity of a major rural city. Stawell is also home to Victoria's leading gold mine whilst a visit to the Bunjils Shelter will reveal a collection of intriguing Aboriginal rock ochre paintings. Further north, the Heatherlie Quarry is of unique historical significance and a horse drawn coach ride follows the trail of both Major Mitchell and the Chinese miners along the Old Adelaide Coach Road.
Other unique and varied attractions include the kangaroos at Zumsteins picnic area, canoeing on the area's peaceful lakes, the Leisure Centre at Stawell, Werbil Aviation's spectacular Grampians scenic flights and golf on greens with a view.
