Ararat
An extremely attractive town on the easterns slopes of the Grampians. Just a couple of hours easy drive from Melbourne, Ararat is a natural tourist draw card, featuring many imposing and beautiful buildings with fascinating histories, including J Ward, once the home for the criminally insane. Visit the Canton Lead, a rich goldfield discovered accidentally by 700 resting Chinese miners, who were just passing through. At the heart of Ararat is the historic and very beautiful Alexandra Gardens, with walk-in fernery and Orchard Glass House. Take your time discovering Ararat. Finally, survey the Grampians hinterland from the One Tree Hill Scenic Lookout, then take off and explore!
