Creswick
A scenic 15 minutes from Ballart, Creswick reflects its significance during the gold boom years alongside its present day status in forestry. Known as the Town of Pine and Gold, it was once the centre of one of the world's richest alluvial goldfields. Many fine buildings were erected during the late 1800s like the Town Hall, which serves as an Historical Museum and The Victorian Forestry School, originally built in 1863 as a hospital. Enjoy a 1km landcare walk at the recenetly established plant nursery and Landscape Education Centre.
Creswick's historic past is not only gold related, it's the birthplace of Australian Prime Minister John Curtin, and was once home to the Lindsay family of art and literature fame. Relax at Calembeen Park outside Creswick which, with its spring filled lakes, offers a perfect swimming and fishing spot. The World of Dinosaurs, apart from the obvious attractions, provides visitors with picnic facilities, barbecue and adventure playground and the opportunity to get close to a variety of wildlife.
