Woodend, with its broad and beautiful, tree lined main street, is only fifty minutes from Melbourne along the Calder Highway. As its name suggests, Woodend is at the northern end of the Black Forest and was a welcome sight for diggers on their way to the goldfields in the 1850's. The Black Forest was a notorious haunt of bushrangers and the history of the area is well documented.
Woodend is a perfect base from which to explore the Macedon Ranges and Spa Country, with direct routes to Lancefield, Mount Macedon, Hanging Rock, Trentham, Blackwood, Kyneton and Daylesford.
