Deep within the forest and nestled in the hills, Trentham's buildings, and even the townspeople themselves, still reflect the fiery blend of Irish Catholics and British Protestants that were first lured here by the glint of gold.
Today, there is plenty to do in this charming town, hidden amongst the forested slopes. Purchase locale produce from the side of the road, sample hearty eateries or visit the nearby mineral springs.
Trentham Falls should not be missed. The waters of the Coliban River plunge down a sheer basalt face to become Victoria's highest single drop waterfall. Walking tracks and picnic or barbecue facilities make this the perfect venue for an outdoor feast.
