Kyneton
Originally a base for the 28th Foot Regiment, Kyneton prospered in the 1850s by supplying diggers on their way to the rich goldfields of Central Victoria. Today the magnificent colonial architecture remains, and Piper Street has become a haven for arts and crafts lovers.
Step back into the prosperous days of old with a visit to the Kyneton Museum. From dolls' houses to mining implements, every aspect of life in the 1800s is recalled in this extensive collection, housed in the former Bank of New South Wales (circa 1855). An original squatter's homestead, dating back to the 1840s, stand among a collection of fascinating buildigs in the grounds.
Landscaped in 1866, Kyneton's Botanic Gardens houses a unique collection of exotic trees and shrubs, including Californian Giant Redwoods, Cork Oaks and a rare Chilean Wine Palm, as well as picturesque picnic spots, BBQs and a playground.
The Annual Daffodil and Arts Festival in September celebrates our region's creativity, while the Country Music Festival in March will get your toes tapping.
