Uluru (Ayers Rock) Sunrise and Mala Base Walk Tour

Experience sunrise at Uluru (Ayers Rock), an Australian experience without parallel. Rise early and witness the sun rise slowly, unveiling the gently sloping shapes and many-colored hues of Uluru. Your guide will then take you on a tour of the base of Uluru, exploring the many caves and rock paintings along the way. A visit to the Uluru Cultural Centre provides both cultural insights and a chance to purchase original artworks.

No trip to the Red Center is complete without seeing the sun rise over Uluru, nature’s spectacular light show. You’ll watch in awe as the sun creeps across the red sand of the desert floor and begins its ascent of the great monolith, bathing Uluru in brilliant color.

You’ll witness this show of color as the sun's first rays strike Uluru (Ayers Rock), and enjoy an early-morning cup of tea or coffee. Then, with the sun climbing into the morning sky, you’ll join a guided walk to the waterhole at Mutitjulu to see ancient cave paintings and learn about the Aboriginal legends of Kuniya Tjukurpa (Python Dreaming).

You’ll then continue along the Mala Walk, at the base of Uluru, to learn the story of the Mala (Hare Wallaby) people who once lived at Uluru. Along the way you’ll see painted caves and learn about the region's geology and flora. As you tour the base of Uluru, you’ll visit Kantju Gorge, a sacred waterhole and traditional hunting ground.

You’ll also visit the Uluru and Kata Tjuta Cultural Centre, dedicated to helping visitors learn about the cultural value of the region. Your half-day morning visit to Uluru also includes a visit to the Maruku Arts and Crafts Cooperative, where you may see Aboriginal artists at work.
