Beachport
Centre of the South East Rock Lobster Industry, Beachport was settled as a whaling station in the 1830s. Today the fisherman's prey is lobster rather than whales, but the quiet atmosphere and unspoilt natural beauty of the town remains. Fresh lobster is available from October to April. Other fresh trawl and lake fish are available all year round.
Drive or walk the spectacular Beauman Scenic Drive along the rugged coastline of the Southern Ocean. Wander along the sandy beaches and on to rocky outcrops at the Salmon Hole and Post Office Rock. Beachport boasts beautiful beaches easily accessible for all the family, whether for surfing, swimming, fishing or just a leisurely stroll. The jetty is the second longest in South Australia providing not only a great spot to fish from but a safe dock for crayboats, trawlers and visiting tall ships such as South Australia's own One and All.
