Robe

RobeThe port of Robe was proclaimed in 1846 and grew to become South Australia's third most important port in 1894. However, the shipping trade declined in ensuing years until only the fishing fleet used the port. An aura of old world charm is apparent as soon as you enter Robe. But this lovely old town offers far more than the immediate charm of historic buildings and tranquil beaches.

Explore the coastline around the obelisk, an historic navigational landmark. To the south can be seen rugged cliffs interspersed with surf beaches, part of the intriguing Little Dip Conservation Park. To the north follow the coastline into Guichen Bay. The coastline becomes less rugged until you encounter the beautiful 17km of gently sloping white sands of Long Beach. This is undoubtedly one of the best swimming beaches in Australia. Drive your car along this beach during the summer months to find your own private spot for swimming, sunbathing or surfing. Robe's maritime climate, sparkling clear waters and clean air offer the complete summer holiday escape. Stunning views of Robe township, the Southern Ocean and Guichen Bay can be seen from Beacon Hill lookout.
