Kingston
Some three hundred kilometres south of Adelaide is Kingston S.E., located on Lacepede Bay at the northern entrance to the South East's Southern Ports region. Kingston and Cape Jaffa provide home port facilities for some 40 lobster boats. Larry, the Big Lobster, is located at the entrance to Kingston and highlights the value of the lobster industry to the area; it really is lobster country. During the season (October to April) fresh lobster is readily available throughout the region. Visitors enjoy visiting the jettys at Kingston or Cape Jaffa during the afternoon to watch the boats returning with the day's catch.
Kingston is renowned for its very safe inshore waters, and offers the visitor a host of activities. A wide range of water sports can be undertaken, including wind surfing, sailing, swimming and fishing. An addition to the local attractions is the analemmatic sundial in Apex Park, a sundial made from granite carvings of animals and fish. When checking the time don't forget to allow for daylight saving.
Adjacent to Len Lampit Reserve is the Cape Jaffa Lighthouse. Originally located on Margaret Brock Reef off Cape Jaffa it was dismantled and relocated to its present sight in 1975. A delightful drive may be taken from Kingston to Cape Jaffa, a small fishing village with excellent fishing for those with boats. 18 kms north of Kingston is a unique rock formation known as The Granites located on the beach. A carpark is provided and excellent views of the rolling surf are a feature.
