Southern Area of Queensland's Sunshine Coast
At the southern end of the Sunshine Coast you'll find Kawana Waters, Pelican Waters, Golden Beach and the main centre for the area, Caloundra. The area also features Dicky Beach, Moffat Beach, Shelly Beach, Kings Beach and Bulcock Beach.
Kawana Waters and Pelican Waters offer a number of sporting and recreational activities and are just minutes from fine surf beaches and the calm waters of Pumicestone Passage. Bribie Island protects the passage from the pounding surf of the Pacific Ocean to create a sheltered boating haven ideal for fishing and numerous water sports. Kawana Shopping World is a shopper's dream offering 86 specialty stores, three major retail outlets, easy banking, a range of eateries and ample parking facilites.
Bulcock Beach features a boardwalk which is popular with fisherfolk and, along with Golden Beach, offers safe, gentle waters ideal for families. Golden Beach also offers a long stretch of clean sand and peaceful seas, ideal for swimming and relaxing whilst surfers will be well rewarded with a visit to Dicky, Moffat, Shelly and Kings Beaches, some of which are patrolled.
Caloundra is the business centre of the area and offers a variety of accommodation. It is an ideal base from which to explore the nearby beaches and Blackall Range hinterland. Caloundra is regarded as the gateway to the Sunshine Coast and boasts the Caloundra Aerodrome, Queensland Air Museum with a range of aircraft and memorabilia, a Ten Pin Bowling Centre and the Corbould Park Race Course.
