The Discovery CoastTake broad sandy beaches, crystal clear water, national parks, estuary and reef fishing, surfing, mudcrabbing, bush walking, four-wheel driving, camel riding and a host of adventure packed activities and you can find the Miriam Vale Shire - a holiday destination, with a population of just 3,500 residents, that caters for everyone. The Discovery Coast is made up of delightful coastal villages complementing cattle farming communities to make your holiday one of discovery. Lt James Cook first stepped ashore in Queensland on May 24 1770, at what is today, the unique town of Seventeen Seventy. Agnes Water, just a stones throw away, has the most northern surfing beach in Queensland and is patrolled during peak seasons and weekends. If you want to experience spectacular scenery and great fishing, Turkey Beach, Rules Beach and Baffle Creek are not to be missed. You can even try camel riding, or camp out in a national park. These parks are controlled by the Department of Environment, while Deepwater and Eurimbula Parks provide facilities, Rodds Peninsula Wilderness Park is accessed only by water.

The administrative centre of the Shire is the town of Miriam Vale, where the Visitor Information Centre is located on the highway. In keeping with the relaxed, easy living aspect of the attractions in the Miriam Vale Shire, a number of different accommodation options are available. A secluded bed and breakfast property, holiday cabins, fully self contained suites, caravan parks and camping grounds and farm stay properties satisfy a variety of holiday needs throughout the shire. This allows the visitors to fully utilise the many attractions. A day reef trip to Lady Musgrave is available, an environmental tour on an amphibian craft, four-wheel drive tours, fishing charters, surfing or simply relaxing on the magnificent beaches. There is also an historical museum open on Saturday and Sunday mornings for visitors to browse and immerse themselves in local history.
