How to get there

How to get thereSELF DRIVE: The Bruce Highway (1) runs directly through Rockhampton, the Region's Capital. Running parallel and servicing the Rural Hinterland are Highway 17 and the Leichhardt Highway (39). The Capricorn Highway (66) links the Central Highlands with the Capricorn Coast. Drive time is seven and a half hours from Brisbane to Rockhampton, Central Queensland's Tourism Hub.

AIR: Up to eight flights a day connect Brisbane and Rockhampton. Both Qantas and Ansett Australia Airlines operate several direct jet services daily. The flight time from Brisbane is approximately one hour.

RAIL: The Spirit of Capricorn operates daily into Rockhampton from Brisbane and The Spirit of the Outback operates twice weekly through Rockhampton to Longreach. A new high-speed Tilt Train will commence operation between Brisbane and Rockhampton in early 1998 - reducing the travelling time from 9 hours 25 minutes to less than 7 hours - faster than driving!

COACH: Daily services operate into Rockhampton with McCafferty's and Greyhound Pioneer Australia. The Hinterland and Central Highlands are also serviced daily by McCafferty's.

GREAT KEPPEL ISLAND TRANSFERS: Great Keppel Island is accessible by air from Rockhampton and by high-speed catamaran, departing daily from Rosslyn Bay, just south of Yeppoon on the Capricorn Coast.
