Adaminaby
Originally part of an extensive cattle station belonging to the York and Cosgrove families, Adaminaby was proclaimed a town under the name of Seymour on 25th March, 1885. The name was altered to Adaminaby on 9th October, 1886, to avoid confusion with the town of Seymour in Victoria.
It became the centre of the rural area comprising the fertile valleys of the Eucumbene and Murrumbidgee Rivers. In 1957 the town was moved to its present location to make way for the rising waters of Lake Eucumbene, the major water storage of the Snowy Mountains Hydro-electric Scheme.
Adaminaby is the centre of one of Australia's best trout fisheries. Keen fishermen can try their luck at the nearby trout waters of Lake Eucumbene, the Murrumbidgee and Eucambene Rivers, Tantangara Dam and Three Mile Dam, and numerous mountain streams.
Adaminaby has changed from a cattle station to a frontier town, a relic of the gold rush days from Kiandra, a quiet rural centre to a tourist town. During the winter months many families are opting for the moderate prices of skiing at Selwyn Snowfields and staying in Adaminaby. Excellent motel and lodge accommodation is available and its small compact shopping centre can provide you with all your needs for your stay.
