Terara, Currarong, Callala
Terara is located 3 kms east of Nowra and was once the leading commercial centre of the area until regular flooding moved residents and businesses to Nowra in the 1870s. A further 5 kms east is Numbaa, the site of the Shoalhaven's first farm. Numbaa was once a thriving community but little remains to indicate this past glory. The town now features pleasant rural drives.
Comerong Island was created as a result of the digging of a canal in 1822 and today is still rich dairy farmland. Access to Comerong Island is by way of the vehicular ferry. Worrigee located nearby features a reception centre and craft shop. Brundee and Pyree are two of Shoalhaven's oldest farming settlements and are still involved in dairying today. Attractions include the Historic Jindyandy Mill and Potters Workshop. Greenwell Point situated to the east of Nowra is a fishing village with varied accommodation and convenient services. Boat ramps are available for ocean-going craft.
Culburra Beach, Orient Point and Crookhaven Heads are an easy 22 kms south-east of Nowra. They are almost entirely surrounded by water and feature excellent beaches for swimming, surfing and fishing and are serviced with a shopping centre and licensed pub at Culburra. Currarong is a tourist resort with a beautiful stretch of beach offering swimming and fishing as well as walking tracks such as the Wreck Walk. Callala Bay, Callala Beach and Myola are situated on the northern side of Jervis Bay. The vast stretches of lovely beaches are popular for sailing, swimming and snorkelling and accommodation is plentiful.
