Tathra
Tathra surrounds itself in the natural beauty of both Mimosa and Bournda National Parks to the north and south and is home to many seabirds such as the little tern and an abundance of wildlife. Ideally located 18 kilometres east of Bega on the Snowy Mountains Highway and rolling right down to the picturesque seaside.
The smallest of the coastal townships, Tathra is rich in history and the traditions of the sea. The Tathra Wharf still stands proud today. It is the only remaining sea wharf on the East Coast restored by the National Trust and houses a museum in the old cargo shed. It is a mecca for fishermen, history lovers and photographers.
Tathra Beach meanders 3km around the shoreline, patrolled in summer and protected from southerly winds. Great surf, board ride or sailboarding. The beach fishing is rewarding with salmon and tailor plentiful. A walk to the northern end of Tathra Beach lies Mogareeka Inlet, the wide sandy shallow mouth of the Bega River. The bird life is thriving. Launch the boat and go for a fish for flathead upstream.
