Eden
Eden is steeped in the traditions of the sea and is famous for its magnificent harbour of Twofold Bay, endless fishing expeditions and fascinating dive wrecks. It is the southern gateway to the Sapphire Coast. Golden, sandy beaches and crystal waters to the east and infinite beauty and complexity of nature, with forests and parklands to the west.
Today Eden is a whale watching wonderland, playing host to these majestic creatures on their annual migration south (sept. to Nov.) Humpbacks, Southern Rights, Minke and even the endangered Blue Whale have been sighted just off shore, often coming right into the bay during this period.
Charter boats operate deep-sea, game fishing and diving expeditions with prolific marine life all year round. Eden's history is alive and captured in the Eden Killer Whale Museum which, among its many fascinating exhibits of Eden's traditions, houses the skeleton of Old Tom, a legend killer whale in his day. Travelling 30km south of Eden, discover the wonders of Wonboyn Lake with its reputation second to none for some of the finest fishing on the coast.
Ben Boyd National Park flanks Wonboyn to the north and Nadgee Nature Reserve to the south, rich in ancient and endemic forms of wildlife and vast wilderness areas. Wonboyn Lake is best discovered by boat as you enter the lake mouth, sandy shoals and channels open to rolling surf and untouched beaches where dingos, dolphins and deserted sand hills can all be discovered.
