Coffs Harbour

Coffs Harbour was originally discovered by John Korff in 1847 after whom the town was named. Today, it is a thriving modern regional centre and one of New South Wales' safest all weather ports. Banana plantations line the backdrop of the town and the jetty that once loaded tonnes of red cedar is now being restored as a heritage structure.

There are numerous restaurants in Coffs Harbour including the unique Rum Runner which specialises in Polynesian cuisine as well as a number of takeaways and tea rooms. The town also boasts the beautiful Botanical Gardens which features a mangrove boardwalk; two cinema complexes; a bowling club; pubs and a large air conditioned shopping centre, The Park Beach Plaza. The Coffs Promenade is another popular attraction offering many specialty shops and there's always the Sunday Jetty Markets for that special bargain buy. Arts,crafts and antiques shops abound in the town and surrounding area such as Granma's Collection and the Green Pastures Gallery. The local museum is also a must for the interested visitor.

Families are well catered for in Coffs Harbour. Some of the many attractions include the Coffs Harbour Zoo, Big Banana Theme Park, Butterfly House and Plaster Fun House. Alternatively, the Coffs Jetty Foreshores offer ideal picnic spots with spectacular views of the southern beaches. There are numerous scenic drives and walks such as the northern breakwall walk which takes you to Muttonbird Island and The Solitary Islands Marine Reserve which features the wildest variety of marine species in Australia. The Coffs Harbour International Marina is a popular attraction which offers both commercial and recreational fishing opportunities. Fishing and sightseeing charters are available here and the marina shops offer everything from gifts and souvenirs to water sports accessories.
